Tempe, Аризона: TownePlace Suites Marriott - Бронируйте Сейчас! (Let's get messy!)
Alright, товарищи! Let's dive into the swirling vortex that is the TownePlace Suites Marriott in Tempe, Arizona. And I gotta say, this ain't your average, sterile hotel review. We're going full-on Russian soul-searching here. Prepare for some душа, some тоска, and maybe even a little bit of vodka-fueled truth-telling.
First off, the basics. Бронируйте Сейчас! (Book Now!) That's what they're saying, right? And… well, let's see if it’s actually worth it. This isn't some perfectly curated Instagram post, okay? Expect some bumps and bruises along the way.
Accessibility: Good news for those with mobility issues! They boast Facilities for disabled guests, and the fact that the elevator exists is a blessing. Not everything is perfect, of course. It's always a gamble, right? I mean, one time I stayed in a supposedly "accessible" hotel, and the shower was practically a death trap! Anyway, I didn't personally test everything.
Things to do & Ways to Relax: The Fantasy vs. the Reality
Okay, the Spa/sauna part really got me excited. Visions of being swaddled in towels, sipping herbal tea, and pretending I'm not stressed about the impending tax season. The brochure promised a Spa, Body scrub, Body wrap. But listen, let's be honest, how often do you really hit up the spa? Steamroom, Swimming pool [outdoor] and Pool with view are still cool though, at least. Remember that time you thought you had time for a leisurely spa day, but then the kids… the email from the boss… the laundry… Yeah, that never happens. But hey, the possibility is there, and that's what counts! Plus, there's a Fitness center (I guess) if you're into that kind of torture. Maybe I'll try the Foot bath.
Cleanliness and Safety: Thank God for this!
With today's world, this is huge. They’re doing the right things. Anti-viral cleaning products, Hand sanitizer, Daily disinfection in common areas, Individually-wrapped food options, Physical distancing of at least 1 meter, Professional-grade sanitizing services, Room sanitization opt-out available, Rooms sanitized between stays, Safe dining setup, Sanitized kitchen and tableware items, Staff trained in safety protocol, Sterilizing equipment… Phew! That's reassuring, yeah? And a Doctor/nurse on call? Now that's peace of mind. Makes a stressed-out traveling Russian feel a little bit better.
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking: The Fuel for the Soul (and Stomach)
Here’s where it gets interesting. The Breakfast [buffet] sounds promising. Asian breakfast, Western breakfast… you know, variety! Coffee shop, Coffee/tea in restaurant - essential for surviving jet lag, right? And Room service [24-hour]? Hello, midnight snacks! A chance to pig out in the privacy of your room without feeling judged. They also have a Poolside bar, which makes me imagine myself, sunning myself on a chaise longue with a cocktail (maybe).
But here's a confession: I'm a sucker for a good Desserts in restaurant. And I kinda hope the Soup in restaurant is decent too.
Services and Conveniences: The Little Things That Matter
Air conditioning in public area, check. Daily housekeeping, THANK GOD. Doorman, nice touch! Elevator (again, important). Luggage storage, crucial for the shopaholics among us. A Convenience store is a lifesaver when you crave a midnight snack. Plus, for the business travelers, Business facilities are available.
For the Kids: Should You Bring the Little Bratkins?
Babysitting service is a godsend. Family/child friendly – well, that's the key! They even have Kids meal.
Available in All Rooms: The Nitty Gritty
Here's the bread and butter: Air conditioning, Alarm clock, Coffee/tea maker, Desk, Free bottled water, Hair dryer, Internet access – wireless, Ironing facilities, Laptop workspace, Refrigerator, Satellite/cable channels, Seating area, Shower, Slippers, Smoke detector… the usual suspects. You know, the stuff that makes a hotel room feel like a home away from home. The Mini bar could be fun but let's not go there (or maybe let's!).
Getting Around: The Escape Plan
Airport transfer, a blessing. Car park [free of charge], even better. Taxi service, always good to know.
My TownePlace Suites Marriott Experience: Let's Dig Deeper (And here's where it gets really personal.)
I'm imagining a scenario. It's late. My flight's delayed. The stress is mounting. All I crave is a clean, comfortable room and a hot shower.
I stumble into the TownePlace Suites. The lobby is… well, it's a lobby. Clean, functional. The staff, thankfully, are pleasant. The check-in process is relatively painless. They tell me "Welcome."
My room… ah, my sanctuary. It's clean, thank goodness. A comfortable bed, a decent-sized TV, and working Wi-Fi. Little things, but they matter. I pour myself a cup of coffee, kick off my shoes, and sink into the sofa. I might even have a (tiny) cry of relief.
The next morning, I head down for breakfast. The buffet is decent. The coffee is hot. I grab a bagel, some scrambled eggs, and a fruit salad. I devour it all, grateful for sustenance. I'm still a bit stressed, but at least I'm not starving.
My biggest fear for these types of hotel? The elevators. I once stayed at a hotel overseas that had an elevator that squeaked and shuddered constantly. Every ride, I was convinced it was going to plunge me into the depths. Thankfully, no elevator doom here. Relief!
Now, the Imperfections and the Truth Bombs (because let's keep it REAL)
Okay, so the TownePlace Suites isn't the Ritz. It's not meant to be. It’s solid, reliable, and gets the job done. There's no gilded opulence. No butler service. But hey, I'm not looking for a ballroom dancing party. I'm looking for a place to rest my weary head.
What I did appreciate -- the little things that matter most after a long trip. The clean sheets. The hot shower. The quiet room. These might sound basic, but they really mean everything.
The Quirky Observations & Sudden Epiphanies
I realized something: it's those tiny interactions that make a real difference. A friendly smile from the front desk. A quick "hello" from the cleaning staff. These small gestures can turn a stressful situation into a pleasant one. Something about feeling seen.
The Emotional Rollercoaster
I’m not going to lie, initially, I wasn’t thrilled. Traveling can be exhausting. The airport chaos had left me rattled. But as I settled into my room, I began to relax. The comfort provided a certain peace. I began to see the good things, the simple pleasures.
Final Verdict: Should You Book? Да, конечно!

This isn't your perfectly polished travelogue. This is the real, messy truth. Let's do this.
TownePlace Suites Tempe: My American Saga (with Added Mayhem)
Day 1: Arrival and Mild Panic
- 14:00 (2:00 PM) - Arrival & Check-In: Okay, okay, first hurdle: finding the hotel. GPS worked (miracle!). The TownePlace Suites. It’s… spacious. Like, a house inside a hotel. They have a little pantry thingy in the room. I haven't figured it out. The receptionist looked friendly. Definitely didn't understand my Russian, but somehow we managed. Key card acquired. Success! But the air conditioning is a roaring beast. Sounds like a jet engine. I’m already missing the quiet hum of my apartment back home.
- 14:30 (2:30 PM) - Unpacking and Initial Assessment: The room is alright – clean, but… beige. Everything is beige. Makes me want to scream for some яркие краски (bright colours)! I'm pretty sure my suitcase is heavier than my luggage allowance. Also: Where's the kettle?! A crucial detail. Tea is a necessity. I start a frantic search. Oh wait, it's in the kitchen thingy.
- 15:00 (3:00 PM) - Emotional Rollercoaster #1: The "Kitchen" and the Dreaded Grocery Run: Ok, this "kitchen." It's got a fridge, yes. A microwave, yes. But the grocery store. Oh, the grocery store. I spent a solid hour wandering around Fry's (a total sensory overload, by the way), feeling utterly lost and bewildered. So many choices! So many brands I'd never heard of! Ended up buying… well, let's just say it's a selection of mystery meat, some questionable-looking fruit (possibly already sentient), and an entire gallon of milk because I misread the size. I blame the jetlag. And the sheer overwhelming option.
- 18:00 (6:00 PM) - Dinner & Reflection: Microwaved something. Actually, I burned it slightly. But the milk… it's very American milk. Thick. I guess. I think I'll order some pizza. Thank goodness for delivery. Alone in this enormous room, feeling a little… foreign. Homesick, maybe. But also… intrigued. This is going to be interesting. I'm going to take some deep breaths and focus on the positive.
- 20:00 (8:00 PM) - TV Torture and Bedtime Blues: American TV. It's… a lot. Commercials every five minutes! And the shows! I flicked through channels and ended up watching some show about a family and their problems. I only understood some parts of the dialog. I need to start learning more english. Eventually, I turned it off. Went to bed. It's comfortable even if not very Russian.
Day 2: Tempe Town Lake and (Another) Existential Crisis
- 07:00 (7:00 AM) - Wake-Up and Panic About Breakfast: Awake thanks to the roaring jet engine AC. My stomach is already in revolt about the mystery meat from last night. I'm not going to eat the food from the hotel. Also, the sun rise is intense. I should probably go out and find some proper food. But where?
- 09:00 (9:00 AM) - Tempe Town Lake - The Unexpected Beauty: Finally found some decent coffee (thank God). Decided to go for a walk around Tempe Town Lake. And… it was lovely. Seriously. The water reflecting the blue sky, people jogging and cycling, the boats… It actually felt peaceful. I even almost forgot about the gallon of milk lurking in my fridge. Took a bunch of photos (bad ones, probably), and felt quite happy for a moment. Pro-tip: bring sunscreen. This Arizona sun is a beast.
- 11:00 (11:00 AM) - Snack Attack (and More Grocery Store Shame): Figured it was time to get some more food. I felt braver this time. Sort of… I took a list and this trip was somewhat successful.
- 13:00 (1:00 PM) - Lunch - The Quest for Flavours: Found a little taco place. Actually, it wasn't little. It was loud. The lady that served me was nice, though and I managed to order some tasty food.
- 15:00 (3:00 PM) - Poolside Contemplation (and Sunburn): Headed back to the hotel to relax. I got in the pool, but it was very hot. I'm still pale. After a while, I had enough and went back to my room.
- 18:00 (6:00 PM) - Dinner and the Pizza Saga Continues: I ordered pizza again because I was too tired to cook. It was good. Watched a movie and went to bed.
Day 3: Arizona State University and Coffee-Fueled Rambling
- 08:00 (8:00 AM) - Coffee. Necessary. Coffee. First. Everything depends on coffee. Today's journey cannot start before coffee.
- 09:00 (9:00 AM) - Arizona State University - A Sea of Students: Went to ASU today. The campus is huge! I walked around for a bit, felt very old and out of place. So many young people! They seemed cool but I kept to myself.
- 11:00 (11:00 AM) - Random Cafe and People-Watching: Found a small coffee place and spent an hour sipping coffee and watching people passing by. It’s great.
- 13:00 (1:00 PM) - Lunch and More Adventures: I was still hungry. So another restaurant. This time, a burger place. The burger was good but I'd prefer something else, eventually.
- 15:00 (3:00 PM) - The Pool and The Air Conditioning. Back to the hotel, this time, I went straight to the pool. It was refreshing. I had some time to think, and I decided that air conditioning is the best thing ever.
- 19:00 (7:00 PM) - The Final Day: One more day left. I don't want to go home yet. Maybe I should visit some more places. Maybe I'm starting to like this place.
Day 4: Departure, Reflection, and the Secret (and Shameful) Confession
- 08:00 (8:00 AM) - Breakfast and Packing Debrief: Breakfast was the worst. I am not going to eat that! Packing… ugh. Why did I bring so much stuff? Trying to shove everything back in. Half of it won't fit. I'll probably need to buy another suitcase.
- 09:00 (9:00 AM) - Last-Minute Shopping (Desperate Times): I needed to find some gifts to take back home. Quick dash to a souvenir shop full of cheap trinkets. Bought a t-shirt that says "I Love Tempe". Might regret that later.
- 11:00 (11:00 AM) - Check-Out and Farewell to the Beige: Check-out. Quick and easy. Said goodbye to the friendly receptionist. Said goodbye to the roaring air conditioning. Said goodbye to beige. Said goodbye to the gallon of milk. (I secretly poured it down the sink, I'm sorry, Fry's.)
- 12:00 (12:00 PM) - Airport and Departure: Airport. Long lines. Security. The usual airport nightmare. Final look at Tempe from the plane window. A rollercoaster of emotions. Exhaustion. Relief. A strange sort of sadness.
- 13:00 (1:00 PM) - On the Airplane: Time to write. It was not the perfect trip. There were many mistakes. But I have the feeling that I'm doing okay.
- 14:00 (2:00 PM) - Reflection: I am starting to understand why people come here. I might even come back.
This, my friends, is the essence of a trip. Not the curated highlights reel, but the raw, messy, beautiful truth. Tempe, you've been… interesting. And a little bit of a страшная сказка (scary fairy tale). Until next time (which probably won't be
